Compare solar proposals using the same roof, usage, installation and maintenance assumptions rather than the system price alone.

Begin with your business requirements
A useful solar enquiry starts with your electricity use and the site you actually have. Share available bills, operating hours and any planned expansion. Explain whether the discussion is about reducing purchased electricity, meeting a project requirement or integrating solar with other equipment. A proposal should identify which of those needs it addresses.
Make the roof part of the discussion
Provide roof drawings or photographs if available, along with information about ownership, access and known repairs. Ask who will assess structural suitability and how roof work, drainage and access routes are handled. A desktop quotation should not be treated as confirmation that a roof is suitable for installation.
Clarify what happens during a power cut
Ask the supplier to explain the proposed configuration, including whether backup operation is included. Do not assume that a rooftop array will keep your premises running during a grid outage. Have any battery, changeover and essential-load requirements described explicitly, with the operating limits and installation scope confirmed by the designer.
Compare the same scope on each proposal
Request an itemised scope covering modules, inverters, supporting equipment, installation, monitoring, documentation and handover. Ask who handles applicable utility approvals and what is excluded. Compare proposed output using the stated assumptions; a generation estimate is not the same as a guarantee of bill savings. Tariffs, export arrangements and approval requirements must be checked for the actual project.
Plan for the years after installation
Ask who will monitor performance, arrange inspections, maintain records and respond to faults. The US Department of Energy’s PV guidance treats operations and maintenance as part of managing a system through its life, including monitoring and planned maintenance. Agree responsibility for access and cleaning; roof and electrical work need appropriate personnel and safe procedures.
Send the details that help the discussion
For an SPSPL solar enquiry, include the site location, roof type, available area if known, electricity bills and business operating hours. Add any backup requirement and your preferred project timing. Those details support an initial discussion; the design and commercial terms still need a site-specific assessment and quotation.
